Latin America-focused Atlas Renewable Energy has signed a 21-year solar power purchase agreement (PPA) with Albras, the largest producer of primary aluminum in Brazil.
The PPA is linked to the in-development, 902-MWp Vista Alegre photovoltaic (PV) park in Minas Gerais state. The US-dollar-denominated corporate PPA has the longest term ever signed in Latin America for a contract of its kind, Atlas said today.
Scheduled to commence operations in 2025, the Vista Alegre PV plant is expected to produce around 2 TWh of clean electricity per year, enough power to meet the demand of a city of some three million inhabitants, such as the country’s capital of Brasilia.
This is the second PPA between the companies, following a contract signed in 2022. Under the previous agreement, Albras will buy electricity from a 438-MW solar plant that is being built by a joint venture between Atlas and Hydro Rein.
At present, the renewables firm has more than 4 GW of contracted projects around the world, of which 2.2 GW are already operational.
