Chile provides permit for $950 mn wind and solar projects



Atlas Renewable Energy has submitted for environmental evaluation of multiple projects in Chile.

It includes a 317MW wind project in Chile known as El Guanaco.

As per a local report, this particular “project US$348mn plant is planned for the districts of Constitución, Empedrado and San Javier, in Maule region.’’ The project is planned to start in January 2024.

Earlier, Atlas has stated that it was entering the windpower segment via a 417MW portfolio of three projects. It further informed that these projects will enter operations from 2025.

According to Atlas, it has a long-term power-purchase agreement (PPA) for 1.3TWh/y with local generator Enel Generacion Chile. These plants are planned for Maule, Araucanía and Los Lagos regions.

Meanwhile, Atlas informed that it has already signed a similar PPA with power firm Engie to develop a solar plant in the Atacama Desert.

Besides, an Atlas Renewable Energy unit has resubmitted for evaluation 106MW wind project. A local report mentioned that this project has a price tag of US$130mn.

This wind project Los Alpes will be developed in the districts of Angol and Collipulli in Araucanía.
