HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), presided over the 83rd virtual meeting of the Council, underscoring Dubai’s strides in sustainable development and green energy initiatives. The meeting, attended by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of DSCE, and other prominent members, reviewed key programs aimed at advancing Dubai’s clean energy agenda.
The Council’s discussions centered on the semi-annual evaluation of projects aligned with Dubai’s Demand Side Management Strategy. These efforts aim to position Dubai as a global leader in water and energy efficiency, targeting savings of 30% by 2030 and 50% by 2050. Significant achievements include enhancing solar energy production, reducing water and electricity consumption, expanding electric vehicle infrastructure, wastewater reuse, and lowering carbon emissions.
In 2023, Dubai achieved substantial reductions in electricity consumption by 15.9% (equivalent to 9.7 terawatt hours) and water consumption by 12.4% (equivalent to 18.8 billion imperial gallons), resulting in savings estimated at AED 14.6 billion. These achievements reflect Dubai’s commitment to sustainable practices and economic efficiency.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer emphasized Dubai’s commitment to the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, striving to achieve 100% clean energy production capacity by 2050. These initiatives are pivotal in enhancing Dubai’s global competitiveness and ensuring a high quality of life for residents, aligning with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi highlighted the Council’s strategic approach in implementing policies and projects that foster a robust local economy and society. This commitment supports Dubai’s transition to a green economy, ensuring sustainable energy practices for future generations.
