In a bid to bolster collaboration in renewable energy and water sectors, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), warmly welcomed HE Oliver Christian, the Consul General of the United Kingdom in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

During their meeting, Al Tayer and Christian engaged in discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation between DEWA and British organizations. The focus was on exploring avenues for joint initiatives and projects that promote sustainability and advance the green economy agenda. Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s commitment to becoming a globally leading sustainable innovative corporation, aligned with its vision of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

DEWA’s ambitious goals in decarbonization and climate action were underscored by Al Tayer. He emphasized the utility’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase the share of renewable energy in its energy mix. With a customer base exceeding 1.2 million in Dubai, DEWA is dedicated to delivering services with utmost efficiency, reliability, and availability.

One of DEWA’s flagship projects, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, stands as the largest single-site solar park globally. Al Tayer provided updates on its progress, highlighting the park’s significant contribution to Dubai’s clean energy goals. By the end of last year, the park’s production capacity reached an impressive 2,627MW, with plans to exceed 5,000MW by 2030 through the utilization of photovoltaic solar panels and concentrated solar power (CSP).

Al Tayer also shared DEWA’s achievements in benchmarking studies, showcasing the utility’s exceptional performance in key performance indicators (KPIs) compared to leading utilities in Europe and the USA. Notably, DEWA recorded minimal losses in electricity transmission and distribution networks, along with reduced water network losses, setting new benchmarks for efficiency.

HE Oliver Christian expressed keen interest in collaborating with DEWA on its pioneering projects in clean and renewable energy and water. He praised the strong bilateral relations between the UAE and the UK and commended DEWA’s tireless efforts in driving sustainable development in Dubai.

The meeting between HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer and HE Oliver Christian serves as a testament to the shared commitment of DEWA and the UK Consulate General towards advancing sustainable initiatives and fostering strategic partnerships for a greener future.
