Elon Musk's latest extravagant idea: using the sun as a global energy source

Elon Musk wants to build a 160 x 160 kilometer photovoltaic plant to cover the energy needs of the United States. Furthermore, such an idea would require batteries and solar panels

Elon Musk is usually on everyone's lips for the controversies he unleashes on the Internet, such as the "thermonuclear" lawsuit that he was going to undertake after several companies withdrew their advertising from the social network X (formerly Twitter) after an anti-Semitic comment he made to mid-November. Although surprisingly, this time, the billionaire believes that a huge fusion reactor in the sky could supply all the energy the United States needs , and he also reveals that this 'invention' already exists.

Specifically, Musk refers to the Sun and considers that a photovoltaic plant of approximately 160 x 160 kilometers would be enough to cover the energy needs of the American country. Likewise, the businessman trusts that with these dimensions "the United States could be powered by solar energy", however, he details in the podcast 'The Joe Rogan Experience' that solar panels and batteries will also be needed to carry out this idea.
