Edison Energia, part of Italian energy supplier Edison SpA has struck a deal with compatriot Verallia to provide the manufacturer of glass packaging products with over 350 GWh of power from its renewable power plants.
The multi-year power purchase agreement (PPA) supports Verallia’s decarbonisation efforts and its goal of using renewable electricity at all of its Italian factories. Deliveries of the contracted power volumes will begin this year and will allow the client to lower its carbon footprint, Edison said on Thursday.
Edison will meet its commitment under the deal with electricity from a mix of renewable energy sources, including a new solar photovoltaic (PV) park, to be the primary source of supply. The plant will be built in the municipality of Viterbo, in the central Italian region of Lazio.
Veralia is pursuing a goal of achieving a 46% reduction of its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by the end of the decade.
