
LyondellBasell is all set to secure 149MW of renewable power capacity solar project in Spain.
The company has already inked a 10-year PPA with Lightsource BP for the same.
According to LyondellBasell senior vice president for net zero transition strategy Chris Cain, Lightsource BP will deliver around 284,000MWh of solar power to LyondellBasell annually under the agreement.
"He was quoted in a statement. “We are taking decisive steps to reduce our absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions, while creating solutions for everyday sustainable living. Solar power purchase agreements accelerate the development of clean energy and are a critical lever in our emissions reduction efforts."
It comes at a time when LyondellBasell has set a target to achieve net zero by 2050. For this, the company has planned to procure at least 50% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
Director of power markets for Europe at Lightsource BP Zosia Riesner, was quoted in a statement, "We are delighted to have been selected by LyondellBasell as a partner on their greenhouse gas emission reduction journey. Our continued investment in growing our pipeline of projects across Spain provides exciting opportunities for collaborations like this in the near future."
