CIP's Energy Transition Fund I (CI ETF I) has partnered with Vestforbrænding to co-develop and operate a carbon capture facility in Denmark.
This Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) project will capture around 500,000 tonnes of CO2 from Vestforbrænding’s waste-to-energy plant for permanent geological storage, representing approximately 11% of the Greater Copenhagen area's total emissions in 2021.
Søren Toftgaard, partner at CIP, emphasized the significance of CO2 capture in achieving net-zero emissions alongside other decarbonization technologies. He expressed confidence that this collaboration with Vestforbrænding will contribute to Denmark's decarbonization goals and further advance the industry, while also enhancing CIP's expertise in carbon capture for future projects.
This initiative supports the Danish Government's objective to permanently store 2.4 million tonnes of CO2 by 2030 and 34 million tonnes by 2045.
