Rio enables green hydrogen production in the state

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Rio de Janeiro state government and White Martins, to allow the state to produce green hydrogen.

The agreement calls for collaboration and coordination with organizations affiliated with the government, businesses, development organizations, civil society, and regulatory bodies, among others, in order to maximize the source’s generation in Rio de Janeiro.

The governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, stated that green hydrogen, which is entirely sustainable, is the fuel of the future and that its integration into the city’s grid is strategic both for the environment and for the potential to improve the quality of life for the populace through cost savings.

The state government has been developing support and incentive systems to facilitate the execution of green hydrogen projects, according to Cássio Coelho, the state secretary for Economic Development, Energy, and International Relations.

The secretary describes it as the “next energy frontier” and an alternative for the decarbonization of the state’s economy.

Gilney Bastos, the president of White Martins, believes that White Martins is in a strategic position for this kind of business since Linde, the firm’s parent company, already dominates technology at all phases of the green hydrogen production chain.
