RWE commissions 46MWac ground-mounted solar PV farm in Europe

RWE has commissioned a 46MWac ground-mounted Morgavel solar photovoltaic farm in Europe.

The farm is located in south of Lisbon in Portugal, spread at an area of 112 hectares in Portugal.

It has been reported that the project will have installations of around 91,000 bifacial solar modules. It is said that the installation will allow solar radiation to be absorbed from the front as well as from the rear side of the module.

Omexom Portugal handled the construction works for the solar plant, while Construção e Manutenção Eletromecânica (CME) worked as the contractor for the grid connection works.

Katja Wünschel, chief executive of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, was quoted in a statement, "I am very proud that the Morgavel solar farm has been commissioned as our first asset in Portugal.”

He further stated, "It will supply approximately 42,000 Portuguese homes with green electricity and make a substantial contribution towards achieving the local climate targets.”

The project is expected to boost the company’s renewables footprint on the Iberian Peninsula and its global solar portfolio.
