Sonnedix inks solar PPA with Equinix for 150MW capacity in Spain

Sonnedix has entered into a partnership with Equinix for 150MW capacity of solar projects in Spain.

The company inked a 10-year solar power purchase agreement deal with Equinix, which is a data center operator.


It has been informed that this agreement is Sonnedix’s largest transaction signed till date in Europe. The agreement covers a portfolio of three solar plants located in Cuenca, in the region of Castilla-La Mancha.

According to the company statement, the PV plants will generate 240,000MWh of green electricity and Guarantees of Origin annually.

Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix, was quoted in a statement, “We are very fortunate to work with Equinix as we continue to expand sustainably in Spain, where we have over 800MW of operating capacity.”

He further said, “This transaction contributes to our accelerating conversion journey at Sonnedix, demonstrating we can operate at scale and build the relationships that allow us to do so consistently.”

So far, Sonnedix has a total capacity of over 9.4GW globally, with a development pipeline of more than 6GW. In Spain, it consists of 1.32GW of capacity as the company has been supporting Spain to achieve its renewable energy goals.

On the other side, Equinix operates more than 240 data centers across 32 countries.

The companies informed that the solar plants are expected to enter into operation by the end of 2024.
