2023, election year, strike year. And in the renewable sector it seems that it is being carried out as the numbers go on August 30 of this year.
With two thirds of the year covered, only 2,403 MW of photovoltaic solar energy and 212 MW of wind energy have been installed. In total, 2,615 MW have been installed so far in 2023.
According to data from the system operator, Red Eléctrica, there is already more than 122,000 MW of installed power throughout the national electricity system.
By technology, wind power is the one with the most connected capacity with 30,371 MW, followed by combined cycles, with 26,250 MW. In third place, photovoltaics already slipped in last year, and if it continues at this rate, by this time next year it will already have surpassed gas technology.
Right now, there are 22,380 MW of solar PV connected to the grid. To this must be added the 2,304 MW of solar thermal.
Already outside the podium is the hydroelectric that exceeds 17,000 MW and the nuclear with just over 7,100 MW, although later it is one of the technologies that generates the most electricity in the year.
To give you an idea. In 2022, a record year for renewable installation in Spain, more than 6,000 MW of renewables were installed, of which 4,700 MW were photovoltaic.
At this rate, not even 4,000 MW installed are reached, although it is in the last months of the year when more photovoltaic plants are connected to the grid.
Another fact. The national electricity system does not even reach 40,000 MW of demand, and there is an overcapacity of 122,000, three times more.
