Iberdrola España and the Asturian business group Exiom are in the final stages of opening the photovoltaic module factory in Asturias. Spain’s inaugural large-scale solar panel factory is slated to commence operations next spring.
Recent notable advancements include the arrival, assembly, and installation of specialized equipment for manufacturing. This machinery, which is intricate, hefty, and high-capacity, is being prepared within the factory in multiple batches.
This initiative reflects the joint efforts of Iberdrola and Exiom to draw a segment of the renewable energy value chain to Spain, particularly focusing on solar energy. The objective is to position Spain as a frontrunner in this burgeoning sector across Europe.
The establishment of this new factory in Europe aligns with both companies’ aspirations for competitive manufacturing at the EU level. Initially concentrating on solar panels, the collaboration may expand to include other components of the photovoltaic value chain.
Iberdrola España’s commitment to a sustainable energy model is exemplified through its PERSEO program, aimed at fostering the growth of startups and innovative industrial ventures operating in areas of electrification and sectors challenging to decarbonize.
