An average of more than 1 GW a day of new solar power is being installed globally through 2023, according to BloombergNEF forecasts, with China contributing at least half that amount.
The BNEF figures, shared on LinkedIn by Europe-based energy analyst Gerard Reid, forecast that China will install a whopping 208 GW of solar power this year, which Reid says is more than the US has installed. in the last 20 years.
China's 200 GW joins an expected 33 GW in the United States, 16 GW and 15 GW from Brazil and India respectively, 11 GW from Germany, and single-digit GW figures from 14 other countries, ranging from the 8 GW and the 2 GW, which yields an average of more than 1 GW per day.
Australia falls somewhere in between, expected to install a total of almost 5.5 GW in 2023, according to BNEF, which would be a 16% increase on the amount installed in 2022.
“The good news,” Reid writes on LinkedIn, “is that solar installations will be bigger in most countries around the world.”
“The total demand for solar panels could be 400 GW, which would be 50% more than in 2022.”
