Turkcell has implemented a major sustainability investment, which is one of its strategic focus areas. The first of Turkcell’s solar power plant investments, which will reach 300 MW by the end of 2026, has started energy production in Uşak. This is part of its plans to meet 65% of its energy consumption from its own renewable energy sources by the end of 2026.
Turkcell General Manager Dr. Ali Taha Koç, expressed the company's view on the Solar Power Plant project in Uşak that has started operating within the framework of Turkcell’s sustainability masterplan, “As Turkcell, our goal is to meet 65 percent of our energy consumption by the end of 2026 with our own green energy resources and to become a net zero company by 2050. Solar power plants are also of critical importance on the way to this goal.
“The construction and permitting processes of our Solar Power Plant projects in different parts of Turkey are ongoing. We aim to build a solar power plant with a total installed capacity of 300 MW by the end of 2026. The total investment amount we will make during this period will be approximately 240 million dollars. In this way, we aim to both reduce our energy costs and carbon emissions. With the commissioning of our solar power plant in Uşak, our first land-based Solar Power Plant project has also become operational. We will continue our investments in this field without slowing down in order to minimize our impact on the environment and leave a more livable world for our children.”
He continued, “A very high volume of data is being produced due to the technologies that have recently come to the forefront, especially artificial intelligence. Protecting and processing this data also requires high energy. As a company operating in such an energy-intensive sector, we have determined sustainability as one of our strategic focus areas. We attach great importance to combating climate change. We benefit from the power of technology for efficiency and a sustainable future in business life. We are the only company in the telecommunications and technology sector in Turkey whose greenhouse gas reduction targets have been approved by the International Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTI). We are also the only technology and telecommunications company in Turkey that received the highest grade, A, from the CDP Climate Change Program, also known as the Carbon Disclosure Project, to which over 20,000 companies worldwide have applied.”
