Zorneding train station has a solar roof from Q Cells

Zorneding is intended to become a model for other train station buildings throughout Germany. The train station in Zorneding not only has a solar roof, but was also built with sustainable and regional raw materials, according to the QCells press release. The solar company delivered the PV rooftop system with a peak output of just under 30 kW as a complete package. It contains 73 modules of the type Q.Peak Duo BLK M-G11S 410. According to Qcells, the roof with the pointed edge was a particular challenge, especially since the solar system had to look good at the same time and there are special safety regulations for the railway area.

The photovoltaic system helps cover the station's own needs. The solar power is used, among other things, to supply the shops, ticket machines, lighting and information signs. The system is expected to deliver around 36,840 kWh of solar power annually.

Qcells is betting that the solar roof train station in Zorneding will be the start of further cooperation with Deutsche Bahn. “It is the first project with Deutsche Bahn that we were able to complete. We are all the more pleased that we were able to convince Deutsche Bahn as a client of the quality of our work and have already been awarded the contract for further solar projects,” says Ivan Nicolas Garcia Hergueta, Head of Department VPP & Project Solutions at Qcells.

Deutsche Bahn has announced that it wants to supply its factories, offices and train stations completely with green electricity as early as 2025. For this purpose, the company also contracts ground-mounted PV systems, as the solar server reported.
