Activ8 Energies has successfully completed a landmark 2.5 MW solar installation at the manufacturing facility of Gyproc Ireland, part of Saint-Gobain, in Kingscourt, Ireland.
The project, comprising 3,556 solar panels, is expected to generate approximately 2,235 MWh of clean electricity annually, supplying up to 15% of the site’s total energy demand.
Developed under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in partnership with SSE Airtricity, the installation enables on-site renewable energy generation without upfront capital investment, while providing long-term cost stability and supporting decarbonisation goals.
The project is considered one of Ireland’s most technically complex commercial solar installations, requiring a fully customised engineering approach due to strict site constraints that prohibited ground penetration. A bespoke ballasted mounting system and specialised construction methods were implemented to ensure successful delivery.
As energy-intensive industries face increasing pressure from rising electricity costs and decarbonisation targets, this project demonstrates how innovative on-site renewable solutions can enhance energy resilience while reducing operational emissions.
The installation is expected to deliver significant cost savings while avoiding over 500 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, contributing to Saint-Gobain’s broader net-zero ambitions and sustainable manufacturing strategy.
