French renewable energy developer Akuo has recently inaugurated a significant solar farm in Portugal, boasting a capacity of 181 megawatts peak (MWp). Located in the Alentejo region, the Santas solar farm is now regarded as one of the largest in the country and is set to generate enough clean electricity to power over 100,000 homes.
Since its founding in 2003, Akuo has made substantial strides in the renewable energy sector. As of the end of January, the company had 1.8 gigawatts (GW) of power generation capacity either in operation or under construction. Additionally, they maintain an ambitious project pipeline exceeding 20 GW.
In a related development, Akuo has secured a power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply wind energy to a unit of Swiss renewables company Axpo in Poland. This agreement is associated with a 66-MW wind farm located in the Silesia region, which began operations in 2021.
This dual focus on solar and wind energy demonstrates Akuo's commitment to expanding its renewable portfolio across Europe.
