Alight, a Swedish solar energy developer, and Finnish company 3Flash have entered into a joint development agreement to construct a 120 MW solar park in Loviisa, southeastern Finland.
The project, slated to begin construction in early 2025, is expected to be fully operational by 2027. Once completed, the park will generate 155 GWh of clean energy annually, which is enough to power approximately 31,000 homes.
In the big picture, our project supports Finland’s energy self-sufficiency and the achievement of climate goals,” said Alexander Rudberg, Alight’s country manager for Finland. “Next, we will continue discussions with companies interested in the power purchase agreement (PPA), who want to speed up their own sustainable development journey. Long-term contracts also ensure the financial profitability of the solar park.”
This project is part of Alight's broader plans for solar energy development in Finland. In 2023 alone, the company announced several large-scale projects, including two 90 MW solar plants revealed in September and another 90 MW facility announced in June.
According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Finland's solar capacity stood at 900 MW by the end of 2023, with a national target to reach 9 GW by 2030.
