On April 22, au Renewable Energy (Chiyoda, Tokyo) and ENERES (Chiyoda, Tokyo) announced plans to build a large-scale grid-connected battery system in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture. The system is scheduled to begin commercial operation in April 2027.
The battery system will have a capacity of 28 MW and 90 MWh, capable of charging and discharging enough electricity to supply approximately 10,000 households. The system will utilize lithium-ion batteries from GS Yuasa. Power conditioning and system construction will be handled by TMEIC (Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corporation), while the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) services will be managed by Kyocera Communication Systems (KCCS).
au Renewable Energy will operate the battery system, engaging in arbitrage transactions using the wholesale electricity market, and will also participate in the supply-demand adjustment and capacity markets to secure revenue. ENERES will act as the aggregator, managing market transactions and overseeing battery charge and discharge control operations.
Both companies aim to accumulate knowledge and experience from this large-scale battery project, continuing to collaborate on long-term projects. Additionally, au Renewable Energy plans to explore a demonstration project in cooperation with Chubu Electric Power Grid to assess the potential for alleviating grid congestion in the Chubu region.
