Australia launches new energy initiatives to back 2050 net-zero target

ree

The Australian government has unveiled updated measures to advance its 2050 net-zero emissions commitment, outlining fresh budget allocations to strengthen the energy transition.

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water said $85 million will be invested to boost energy efficiency by broadening access to energy ratings and introducing a Demand-side Statement of Opportunities to highlight areas for improvement.

A further $2 billion will be channelled to the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) to accelerate large-scale emissions reduction projects. In addition, $50 million has been earmarked for upgrades at community sports clubs, including solar and battery installations, efficiency improvements, new lighting systems, and climate resilience upgrades.

To support cleaner fuels, $1.1 billion will go toward developing low-carbon liquid fuel production. Another $40 million will help expand kerbside and fast-charging infrastructure for electric vehicles across the country.
