Bezant Resources PLC has announced the signing of a non-binding letter of intent (LOI) to partner with CrossBoundary Energy Management and Eversolar Pty Ltd for a renewable and/or hybrid solar energy supply at its Hope & Gorob Copper-Gold Project in Namibia, where Bezant holds a 70% interest. The partnership, contingent upon a legally binding offtake agreement, will provide sustainable power for both the crushing and ore sorting plants at the Hope & Gorob site, as well as a renewable installation at the flotation plant near Swakopmund, which will be reconfigured to produce final copper-gold concentrate.
Bezant is pursuing this energy solution to cut costs, reduce CO2 emissions, and enhance its sustainability efforts in line with best ESG practices. The project will utilize dry ore sorting to minimize water use and repurpose an existing off-site flotation plant, thereby reducing the project’s physical footprint.
Key Highlights:
The LOI outlines a plan for delivering a renewable solar energy solution to both the Hope & Gorob and flotation plant sites, subject to a binding energy power offtake agreement by December 1, 2024.
No advance payments are required from Bezant.
The proposal, based on an initial 15-year contract, offers a competitive energy cost.
The solution promises significant financial savings and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to a thermal-only option.
Chairman Colin Bird commented, “We are excited to collaborate with leaders in the renewable energy sector. The combined expertise of CrossBoundary Energy and Eversolar in developing a renewable solution for both production sites will substantially cut costs over the life of the mine and reduce emissions. Our commitment to a sustainable power supply complements our previous initiatives, including dry ore sorting to limit water consumption and recycling an existing flotation plant for processing pre-concentrate.”
CrossBoundary Energy will finance and implement the solar hybrid system, guaranteeing reliability and a suitable renewable policy for the mine’s duration. Eversolar will handle the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) aspects and manage the solar plants at both the Hope & Gorob site and the flotation plant.
