BIGGEST GREEN HYDROGEN AND AMMONIA FACILITY IN LATIN AMERICA, SIGNED

For its new facility in Paraguay for large-scale green hydrogen production, from sustainable energy sources, Urbas has signed a consulting and engineering design contract with Atome.

This new facility will be the biggest green hydrogen and ammonia facility in Latin America and run entirely on renewable energy. It will be situated in Villeta, 35 kilometers from Asunción, close to the Paraguay River.

According to the company that specializes in sustainable infrastructure and building, real estate development, and renewable energies, it will have an installed capacity of 120 MW for the daily production of 50 tons of hydrogen and 300 tons of ammonia in liquid form, ready to be transported and marketed.

As part of the connection and supply agreement Atome inked with the National Electricity Administration, the Villeta facility will use renewable energy from the Itaipu hydroelectric plant, the second-largest hydroelectric plant in the world.

The partnership created by Urbas and its engineering firm Ingeser in association with the Swiss business Casale has been granted the Atome FEED contract.

Urbas will be in charge of, among other things, the study, consulting, design, and detailed basic engineering of the plant, as well as the analysis and projections of Capex and Opex. Additionally, Urbas will be in charge of the study of performance and production indicators, which will allow evaluation of the appropriate technologies for the electrolyzer unit and the cost of the civil works and electromechanical assembly for the construction of the plant.

The FEED study is anticipated to be finished in the second quarter of 2023, allowing Atome to address the final investment decision (FID) soon and anticipate having the facility fully operating in the first half of 2025.
