BNZ Begins Construction of 216 MWh Battery Storage Projects in Italy

November 5, 2026 | Italy
Spanish independent power producer BNZ has started construction of two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Italy's Lazio region, with a combined storage capacity of 216 MWh.
The two projects, located at Rinaldone and Camposcala, will each feature 27 MW / 108 MWh of battery storage with a four-hour duration. They will be integrated with BNZ's existing solar PV plants, which have installed capacities of 45 MWp and 53 MWp, respectively.
The hybrid systems will store excess solar generation during peak production hours and release electricity when demand is higher, helping improve renewable energy integration and grid flexibility.
Construction is being carried out by Grupotec at Rinaldone and Elecnor at Camposcala. Both facilities are targeted for commissioning before the end of 2026.
The projects form part of BNZ's broader plan to develop 350 MW of battery storage capacity across eight projects in Italy. Across Europe, the company has a portfolio exceeding 2.7 GW, including approximately 850 MW of BESS capacity.
