Chandra Asri Group joins Perum Jasa Tirta II in promoting renewables for CA-EDC plant in Indonesia

PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk (Chandra Asri Group), a prominent chemical and infrastructure solutions provider in Indonesia, has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Perum Jasa Tirta II (PJT II) to undertake a feasibility study regarding the potential of renewable energy development.

The study focuses on Solar Power Plants (PLTS) and Hydro Power Plants (PLTA) to cater to the energy needs of Chandra Asri Group’s Chlor-Alkali and Ethylene Dichloride (CA-EDC) plant, currently under development. The collaboration aims to support Indonesia’s goal of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060.

The MoU signing ceremony, held in Jakarta saw the participation of key representatives from both entities, including Edi Riva’i and Ruly Aryawan from Chandra Asri Group, and Dikdik Permadi Yoffana from Perum Jasa Tirta II.

Chandra Asri Group, known for its commitment to sustainability and growth, views this collaboration as pivotal in supporting the development and operation of the CA-EDC plant with green energy. The feasibility study seeks to create new business opportunities in the realm of renewable energy, aligning with Chandra Asri Group’s role as a Growth Partner for Indonesia.

The CA-EDC Plant, currently under construction, is slated to become a key player in Indonesia’s chemical industry, with an annual production capacity exceeding 400,000 tons of Caustic Soda and 500,000 tons of Ethylene Dichloride. The plant’s electricity demand, initially set at 140 MW and projected to increase to 200 MW by 2026, necessitates a total capacity of 340 MW.

Dikdik Permadi Yoffana, Director of Business Development at Perum Jasa Tirta II, highlighted the organization’s commitment to leveraging its resources, including the management of key water resources, to support the development of renewable energy sources. The collaboration with Chandra Asri Group signifies a strategic step towards promoting environmentally friendly energy usage in industrial processes.

The CA-EDC plant’s construction is poised to contribute significantly to Indonesia’s participation in the global electric vehicle supply chain, given the rising demand for caustic soda, a vital component in various industries.
