China Energy Engineering has signed an EPC deal worth around USD 972 million (EUR 889.2m) for the construction of the 2-GW Haden solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in western Saudi Arabia.
The contract was signed between a China Energy Engineering consortium and a joint venture between Saudi Arabia's sovereign fund PIF, Riyadh-based developer ACWA Power, and Saudi Aramco, China Energy Engineering said in a stock market filing on Wednesday.
The project is located about 70 km (43.5 miles) northeast of Taif City, Mecca Province. Construction should be completed within 31 months, according to the stock market filing.
When operational, the solar plant is expected to feed into the Saudi power grid about 6,355,382 MWh per year.
Haden is one of three solar PV projects that are being developed by ACWA Power and PIF in Saudi Arabia as part of PIF’s commitment to develop 70% of the Kingdom’s renewable energy by 2030.
