Cubico has entered into partnership with Storaltil to develop over 1GW of battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Italy.
The duo has entered into a joint venture which consists of four projects in its initial phase. The JV will develop BESS projects in areas with grid congestion. It includes two contributions from Cubico with a combined capacity exceeding 150MW.
According to the companies, Cubico's expertise in originating and developing projects in Italy, along with Storaltil’s technical expertise, data and experience in locating optimal sites will be instrumental in the success of the JV.
Alessandro Asperti, Country Head for Italy at Cubico, was quoted in a statement, "This strategic partnership with Storaltil marks a significant milestone for Cubico as we enter the dynamic and rapidly growing BESS market in Italy.”
He further stated, “Our collaboration aims to address critical grid challenges and contribute to the realisation of Italy's clean energy goals, aligning with the broader European objectives for a sustainable future."
The latest partnership comes at a time when the country is said to have required nearly 71GWh of new battery storage by 2030. Only then, Italy will be able to meet the European Union's target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55%, as per local reports.
