Econergy Renewable Energy Ltd, an Israeli independent power producer (IPP) focused on renewables, has successfully integrated its 50-MW/102-MWh Swangate battery energy storage system (BESS) into the grid in Yorkshire, UK.
The company announced on Thursday that phased electricity transmission has begun, with full connectivity expected in the upcoming weeks. Swangate, also referred to as West Melton, marks Econergy's inaugural battery project in the UK. The development was recently financed with approximately EUR 32 million (USD 35.3 million) in debt from Goldman Sachs, which has also established a long-term route-to-market agreement for trading and optimizing the battery.
Econergy operates across the UK and Poland, with recent expansions into Italy and Romania, and is managing a pipeline of 10.6 GWh of energy storage projects currently in development. In the UK, the company’s BESS pipeline includes 26 projects totaling 6.8 GWh, of which 15 are co-location projects.
In the third quarter of next year, Econergy plans to commission an 82-MWh battery currently under construction in Dalmarnock, Scotland, by the third quarter of next year. Additionally, the company aims to commence construction of more energy storage facilities and solar parks in the UK in 2024 and 2025.
