EDF Renewables, part of French government-owned utility group EDF, has announced plans to develop two ground-mounted solar photovoltaic projects totalling 116 MWp in the German state of Lower Saxony.
The firm’s German unit EDF Renewables Deutschland said on Monday that it will be responsible for the development, construction, and operation of the projects, which will be part of its own solar portfolio.
The solar farms will cover a total area of 100 hectares (247.1 acres) of land in the municipality of Adelebsen. One project will take up 51 hectares in the village of Loedingsen and and the other 49 hectares in Guentersen.
The land is currently owned by the Adelebsen Castle Foundation and the Count Wolff Metternich family, and negotiations are underway with the owners of neighbouring areas, EDF Renewables Deutschland said.
The company plans to hold a public information meeting in early September to present the project to the municipality and the landowners.
