Enel Colombia, a leading Latin American utility group, has officially launched its 370-MWac Guayepo I & II solar farm complex, now the largest centrally dispatched solar farm in Colombia.
This new plant surpasses the utility’s previous record-holder, the 150-MWac La Loma solar plant.
Located in the municipalities of Ponedera and Sabanalarga in the Atlántico department, the Guayepo complex spans over 1,110 hectares (2,743 acres) and includes 820,600 solar panels. It has the capacity to generate nearly 1,030 GWh of electricity annually, enough to power approximately 1.5 million people.
As part of a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA), Colombian brewery Bavaria SA will purchase a portion of the plant’s electricity.
With the addition of Guayepo I & II, Enel Colombia now operates four centrally dispatched solar farms in the country, including La Loma, Fundacion, El Paso, and Guayepo I & II.
Together, these farms total approximately 700 MWac, representing more than 30% of Colombia's total solar energy capacity, according to Antonio Crisol, Generation Manager at Enel Colombia.
