Frontier Power Limited and Ethos Green Energy Limited have signed a landmark Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to accelerate the UK’s clean energy transition. This strategic partnership will focus on large-scale battery storage, solar energy, data centres, and integrated co-location projects across the country.
The initial phase targets battery storage projects eligible for Ofgem’s Long-Duration Energy Storage (LDES) cap-and-floor scheme, using flow and zinc-based technologies. With over 10 GW of grid connection access provided by Ethos, the collaboration could enable up to 20 GWh of LDES projects, with additional capacity to be developed through other commercial routes.
In addition to storage, the partners plan to develop 5 GW of solar energy and approximately 5 GW of data centre capacity at key sites. These projects will form the foundation for “energy hubs” — integrated clusters combining renewable generation, storage, and demand centres such as data facilities, aimed at maximizing shared infrastructure and supporting the UK’s net-zero ambitions.
Ethos brings exclusive land and grid opportunities to the table, while Frontier provides deep expertise in project development, financing, and delivery. With supply chain partners including Invinity and Eos, the collaboration is positioned to become a leading force in the UK’s clean energy landscape.
Humza Malik, CEO of Frontier Power, noted that the partnership represents a major step forward in addressing the UK’s energy challenges through scalable, secure solutions.
Simon Wragg, CEO of Ethos, highlighted their shared vision for Renewable Energy Hubs, an idea developed by sister company Pando Renewables, now being brought to life through this collaboration.
