HEXA Renewables, supported by the global infrastructure fund I Squared Capital, has officially commissioned the world’s largest offshore floating solar power plant in Changhua County, Taiwan. This pioneering project, which spans four plots across 347 hectares, sets a new benchmark in renewable energy innovation.
In collaboration with the Taiwanese government, HEXA Renewables completed the project’s second phase, adding 192 MWac to the initial 181 MWac capacity developed in 2020 by Chenya Energy, previously an I Squared Capital subsidiary. This combined capacity of 373 MWac secures its title as the largest offshore floating solar installation globally.
Advancing Taiwan’s Decarbonization Goals
HEXA’s project supports Taiwan’s ambitious energy targets—20 GW of renewable capacity by 2025 and net-zero emissions by 2050. The plant offsets 136,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year, providing renewable energy to around 74,000 Taiwanese households.
The successful collaboration exemplifies the impact of public-private partnerships in driving a cleaner energy future. Through expertise, innovation, and sustainability, HEXA Renewables and the Taiwanese government are enhancing local energy security and contributing to global climate efforts. Together, they are building a brighter, more sustainable future for Taiwan and beyond.
