India has granted approval to six domestic solar cell manufacturers, collectively representing 13 GW of annual production capacity, for inclusion in its Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) for photovoltaic (PV) cells.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) released the updated ALMM, which includes FS India (First Solar’s local unit), Jupiter International, Emmvee, Mundra Solar (Adani Group), Premier Energies, and ReNew.
Among the approved manufacturers, Mundra (Adani) leads with 3,832 MW of certified capacity, comprising 1,939 MW of bifacial monocrystalline PERC and 1,893 MW of bifacial n-type TOPCon technology. FS India follows with 3,212 MW, while Premier Energies has 1,925 MW of bifacial monocrystalline PERC. Emmvee brings 1,553 MW of bifacial n-type TOPCon, ReNew contributes 1,766 MW of bifacial monocrystalline PERC, and Jupiter International adds 779 MW of bifacial monocrystalline PERC.
Under current ALMM guidelines:
Projects with bid submission dates on or before August 31, 2025, must use ALMM-listed solar modules, but solar cells do not need to be on the list, even if the project is commissioned after June 1, 2026.
Projects with bid submissions after August 31, 2025, must use both ALMM-listed modules and cells, regardless of when they are commissioned.
This move is part of India’s broader effort to boost domestic solar manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports, while aligning with its ambitious renewable energy goals.
