Ireland has surpassed 2 GW of installed solar capacity, a landmark that underscores solar’s growing role in the country’s clean power mix.
The milestone was reached after three newly energised solar farms developed by Dublin-based BNRG came online: Dunmurry (22 MWp / 12 MW MEC), Finnis (16 MWp / 9 MW MEC) and Kerdiffstown (6 MWp / 4 MW MEC). Together, the projects helped push national installed solar capacity beyond the 2 GW threshold. Natural Power supported the developments and marked the achievement as a major step forward for Ireland’s energy system.
Eoghan Tuite, Country Lead for Natural Power in Ireland, said the 2 GW figure signals the maturity of Ireland’s solar market and sets the stage for the next phase of growth toward a cleaner and more resilient power system.
Ireland’s Climate Action Plan targets 80% renewable electricity by 2030, with recent market reforms and the RESS auction framework accelerating deployment across wind, solar and storage. Solar’s expansion—from the first auction in 2020 to 1 GW connected in 2025—has highlighted rising investor confidence and growing market readiness, while Natural Power continues to broaden its activity across solar, onshore wind, offshore wind and energy storage.
