Jinko Will Help English Football Champions Transition To Solar Energy

China’s JinkoSolar Holding Co Ltd will cooperate with English football club Manchester City to promote the use of solar energy around the world and will also support its plan to install photovoltaic (PV) panels across its training facility.

The Premier League winners for the past four seasons announced the partnership on Wednesday, saying that Jinko will become the Club’s Official Solar Energy Partner. To promote solar energy, the company will engage with City fans globally, the press statement says.

Earlier this year, the football club also unveiled it was seeking planning approval from the city council for the installation of 10,887 PV panels on its campus. This is expected to make the club’s training facility, the City Football Academy, one of the largest producers of renewable energy in world football.

If the city council gives the required permits, Manchester-based renewable energy developer Clearvolt will install the systems by the end of the year.

The latest announcement notes that Jinko will support this plan, but does not give any further details.

City’s ultimate goal is to reach net zero by 2030. The club has been purchasing 100% renewable electricity for the past eight years.
