
The largest solar farm in south-east Europe has been officially inaugurated. The 155MW Rătești solar farm is located in Romania, and is likely to produce around 220GWh of electricity annually. This project is a joint venture between Israeli companies Econergy Renewable Energy and Nofar Energy. The project covers an area of 170 hectares land. The duo informed that the solar project represents the largest investment in renewable PV energy in Romania, which is worth €102 million. It further informed that the project is currently in the testing phase. According to Econergy Romania country manager Bogdan Asanache, "It is truly a solar day for us today. As we stand today at the largest photovoltaic park in Romania, we see how the renewable energy sector is rapidly developing in Romania.” He was further quoted, "This photovoltaic park in Ratesti is Econergy's first to be connected to Romania, and there are 2.3GW of development capacity, along with 410MW are under construction or in operation throughout the country, ensuring energy independence and decarbonizing the energy sector.” In southeast Europe, the Romanian market is regarded as a key market. The country plans to achieve the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
