LG Electronics joins Renewable Energy 100

The leading global brand LG Electronics has joined RE100 (Renewable Energy 100). The company has pledged to convert its business sites to 100 percent renewable energy by 2050. According to LG, it will increase its usage of electricity from renewable sources including solar and wind power to 60 percent by 2030 and 90 percent by 2040. Ultimately, it has set a target of achieving 100 percent by 2050. For this, the company will be expanding the usage of renewable energy at its offices and manufacturing facilities. Besides, it informed that it will also acquire renewable energy certificates (RECs), signing renewable energy power purchase agreements among other measures. Only last year, LG had inked a direct PPA with GS EPS to build a solar power station in Changwon, South Korea by 2025. “Through ongoing efforts and innovation, LG is well on its way to achieving its goals of converting to 100 percent renewable energy and becoming a carbon neutral business,” Lee Sam-soo, chief strategy officer at LG Electronics, was quoted in a statement. The company informed that it is also reducing indirect carbon (scope 2) emissions generated while using power by converting to renewable energy.
