MEIL (Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd.) announced this week that it has entered into power purchase agreements with Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) to supply a total of 618.1 MW of solar energy.
Under the agreement, MEIL will construct 76 solar power plants with varying capacities across Karnataka, operating in RESCO mode. This means that the capital expenditures for the projects will be covered by MEIL, thereby easing the financial burden on local farmers. The solar energy generated will be supplied under the PM-KUSUM C scheme, which aims to promote solar-powered, grid-connected agricultural pumps.
The PM-KUSUM C scheme, launched by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, is designed to enhance clean energy adoption in agriculture by facilitating the solarization of both individual pumps and feeder lines. This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to the sustainability of the agricultural sector while providing farmers with reliable and cost-effective energy solutions.
