The mechanical completion of the project was achieved two weeks ahead of the original schedule, Elecnor Australia said on Friday. The company and its partner NHOA Energy are in charge of all engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) activities.
All 1,280 battery cabinets have been installed and cold commissioned, Elecnor Australia said. Once up and running, the complex located about 7 km west of the township of Blyth will become the largest energy storage facility in South Australia.
The Blyth battery is being built simultaneously with the first stage of the Goyder wind park to firm its production capacity. The two facilities will deliver a 70-MW renewable-energy baseload supply to mining group BHP, covering half of the energy needed to power its Olympic Dam mine, starting next summer.
