The electricity generated with photovoltaic energy will already reach 27,968 gigawatt hours (GWh) produced this year, with which it will beat its historical record of annual production, surpassing all the production of the year 2022, when it was 27,902 GWh.
As reported by the electrical system operator, Red Eléctrica, the electricity produced between January 1 and September 6 of this year by photovoltaic solar power is 32.3% higher than that of the same period in 2022.
Red Eléctrica has explained that this maximum generation from photovoltaic solar is due to the favorable weather conditions and the installed power, since this technology has increased its presence in the generation park and is already the third source in terms of installed power, with 22,454 megawatts (MW).
Photovoltaic solar energy is the fourth technology that has produced the most electricity so far this year, with 15.1% of the total.
For its part, wind energy, which is the first source of generation in the year, has generated 22.4% of the total, which means that, together with solar, half of the energy produced in Spain is renewable.
The summer months are in which photovoltaic solar has a greater contribution.
July, with 4,530 GWh, was the month with the greatest contribution from this technology, which increased its production by 33.6% compared to July of the previous year.
In addition, on August 2, photovoltaic solar registered a new daily production maximum, with 161 GWh, and in some days in July and August it produced more than 20% of all daily electricity.
