Warsaw-based independent power producer R.Power is progressing three large battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Poland totaling 650 MW / 2,300 MWh, creating one of the largest storage pipelines in Central and Eastern Europe.
All three assets won 17-year capacity market contracts in Poland’s December 2024 auction at a clearing price of PLN 264.90/kW/year (about $65/kW/year), securing long-term revenues and underscoring their system value. That auction for 2029 delivery awarded over 8 GW of capacity overall, including ~2.5 GW to “new generation” BESS units sized 1.2–153 MW. R.Power was among the major winners alongside Qair, OX2, Hynfra Energy Storage, Columbus Energy, and others, while utility Enea withdrew >1.2 GW of gas-fired capacity as uneconomic at the clearing price.
R.Power’s portfolio comprises Jedwabno, Tursko, and Gdańsk. Jedwabno is ready-to-build, with construction slated for late 2025; Tursko and Gdańsk are nearing RTB, targeting operation in 2028–2029. The projects are designed to capture multiple revenue streams beyond capacity—storing renewable generation and participating across ancillary and energy markets.
