Renewables Arrive in Empty Spain

The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Miteco) has definitively approved 132 energy transition projects in Andalusia under the DUS 5000 program for municipalities and towns with less than 5,000 inhabitants, which will receive a total of 41.22 million euros for the development of their renewable energy installation initiatives in their localities.

A total of 477 applications were submitted to this call in Andalusia, of which 216 have been included in the budget and of these, 132 have already received a favorable opinion, while the rest are still under study.

The objective is to promote the energy transition as a tool to create activity and employment, improve well-being and public accounts, and combat the demographic challenge, the Government Delegation in Andalusia reported in a note.

Miteco evaluates this line of the DUS 5000 Program to give the green light to applications that meet the objectives set out in the call, endowed with 76.5 million euros for the Andalusian community.

The DUS 5000 Program articulates financing of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) in municipalities with a population of up to 5,000 inhabitants or in non-urban municipalities, scattered in nuclei of that population size, of up to 20,000 inhabitants.
