RWE Supply & Trading and Salzgitter Group have inked a power purchase agreement (PPA) for 64 gigawatt hours annually in Germany. The electricity will be generated from the 180MW Boitzenburger Land solar farm located in Brandenburg, one of the largest solar plants in the country. The agreement spans seven years and begins in 2027.
The facility is jointly owned by Solarenergie Boitzenburger Land, GP Joule Group, and Mainova.
David Egyptien, Head of Commodity Solutions Germany & Benelux at RWE Supply & Trading, stated, "We are pleased to be able to support our long-standing customer Salzgitter in realizing its sustainability strategy. The demand for CO2-free electricity supplies from renewable sources is growing strongly.”
Marco Hauer, Head of Group Energy Procurement at Salzgitter Flachstahl, commented, "Conventional steel production currently still releases large quantities of greenhouse gases. For this reason, we are pushing ahead with the conversion to an almost CO2-free steel production process on a large scale.”
Salzgitter Group has pledged to fulfill its energy needs from renewable sources by 2025 and to achieve 100% green electricity by 2030.
