Seiasa has issued a tender for the comprehensive modernization project of the irrigation area along the Right Bank Canal of the Najerilla in Cenicero, La Rioja. This project is valued at €6,700,026, with bids open until September 6, and an execution period of 14 months. The energy for pumping will be sourced from both the existing electrical grid and a newly installed photovoltaic system. The photovoltaic system, with a capacity of 218 kW, will generate 368 MWh annually, covering 54% of the annual energy needs for pumping.
The modernization will involve constructing a new intake structure on the Right Bank Canal to direct water to an initial regulating reservoir. This reservoir, which will be filled by gravity, covers an area of 949.10 hectares and is strategically placed at the start of the irrigable land. It will supply between 55% and 60% of the area by natural pressure.
To enhance irrigation, a pumping station will be built to elevate water to a secondary reservoir positioned at a higher elevation. This elevated reservoir will facilitate irrigation by natural pressure over the remaining area and will have an annual energy consumption of 710 MWh.
The pumping station will feature two parallel pumps—one with a 55 kW capacity and another with 132 kW—providing a combined pumping flow rate of 176 liters per second at 65.2 meters of water column. Power will be supplied through the electrical grid and a 217.8 kW photovoltaic installation, which will include 396 monocrystalline PERC panels rated at 545 W each, arranged with 18 panels per string. The panels will be set at a 15º inclination, with a fixed installation requiring a minimum horizontal spacing of 5,474 mm and a vertical projection distance of 1,071 mm.
The station will also incorporate an automation and remote control system, allowing for centralized management of all equipment and infrastructure.
This project is funded under the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
