Sonnedix inaugurates 50MW solar plant in Spain

Sonnedix has inaugurated a 50MW solar plant in Spain.

Director of Sonnedix España Gerson González officially inaugurated the solar PV plant. The Sonnedix Los Frailes plant is located in Badajoz.

Samuel Ruiz, Industry, General Director for Industry, Energy and Mining of the regional Government of Extremadura, Eladio Buzo, Economy and Treasury Councillor of Badajoz City Council, Jorge Amiano, and Sonnedix’s Head of Engineering & Construction among others attended the ceremony.

It is spread across 111 hectares of land, with installations of over 110,000 monocrystalline solar panels. The plant also consists of a transmission line to the Vaguadas substation.

The plant had entered into operation in December 2022.

According to the company, during the construction phase, Sonnedix had contributed to the local economy and community through jobs, in line with its ESG standards.

Director of Sonnedix España was quoted in a statement, “This plant is the first project that Sonnedix España has fully developed and built in Spain, as well as taking care of its management, operations and maintenance.”

He further added, “It is, therefore, a symbol of our consolidation in the market as a leading renewable energy producer. We are very proud to be sharing and celebrating this milestone with so many partners, clients and friends today.”

Earlier in 2020, Sonnedix had inked a 10-year PPA with Statkraft for the supply of 100GWh of energy annually. Statkraft is Europe's largest producer of renewable energy.
