On Tuesday, Dutch solar roof specialist Sunrock announced plans to install large-scale photovoltaic systems at two BMW plants in eastern Bavaria. The systems will have a combined capacity of 14 MWp and will be integrated into BMW's renewable energy strategy.
Starting from 2025, the new photovoltaic systems will supply locally sourced renewable energy to BMW’s plants under a local Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
Covering 125,000 sqm of roof space, the systems are expected to generate 14.2 GWh of electricity annually. The largest installation at the Dingolfing plant will produce 11.3 GWh from 11.1 MWp capacity, while the Regensburg facility will generate 2.9 GWh from 2.9 MWp. The solar power will help BMW reduce its carbon footprint and advance its renewable energy integration strategy.
Nicole Haft-Zboril, Head of BMW Group Real Estate Management, emphasises, “This project not only creates one of the largest rooftop photovoltaic installations in Germany. We are also directly advancing the renewable energy supply of BMW Group sites on the factory premises.”
Construction on the solar installations at BMW’s Regensburg and Dingolfing plants is set to begin soon, with the completion and commissioning expected by 2025.
