Sunview Group Berhad, a leading player in the renewable energy sector, has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Fabulous Sunview Sdn Bhd, has entered into a Heads of Terms agreement with the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, represented by the Ministry of Energy. This agreement marks a significant step towards the development of solar photovoltaic power plants and battery energy storage systems (“BESS”) in Uzbekistan.
The Heads of Terms outlines the preliminary terms of the collaboration before the final agreements are formalized. Under this agreement, Sunview will establish a special purpose company in Uzbekistan to oversee the construction, financing, ownership, operation, and maintenance of two major solar PV power plants: a 400 MWAC facility in the Andijan region and a 200 MWAC facility in the Fergana region. These plants will operate under a 25-year power purchase agreement (“PPA”), with operations commencing from the scheduled commercial operation date. After the agreement term, Sunview will either transfer ownership or decommission the plants.
In addition to the solar power plants, Sunview will also develop a 100MWAC/200MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) near the Andijan plant, with a 12-year operational tenure. The Government of Uzbekistan will provide crucial support for these projects, including land leases and the necessary regulatory approvals for successful execution.
Sunview Group Berhad’s Group Executive Director & Group Chief Executive Officer, HP Ong, commented on the agreement:
“This agreement symbolizes a significant step forward in our journey toward a net-zero and sustainable energy landscape as we embark on this transformative project in Uzbekistan. This project not only underscores our expertise in the solar energy industry but also demonstrates our dedication to sustainable development and international collaboration. We are excited to contribute to Uzbekistan’s energy landscape and foster a greener future for all.”
The agreement with Uzbekistan highlights Sunview’s commitment to expanding its international footprint and contributing to global sustainability efforts. As the world moves towards renewable energy, projects like these play a vital role in reducing carbon emissions and promoting clean energy solutions.
