Sverdlovsk scientists started research on hydrogen energy

The Research Institute of Hydrogen Energy has opened on the basis of the Ural Federal University. This is reported by RIA Novosti.

The institute will become a platform for implementation of the university’s large-scale project “Materials and technologies for hydrogen and nuclear power engineering”.

According to the scientists, today special attention is paid to hydrogen direction of alternative energy. The scientific director of the Institute of High-Temperature Electrochemistry UB RAS, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Yuri Zaikov believes that hydrogen energy opens new prospects for the development of the world economy, because hydrogen, due to its energy and environmental characteristics and almost inexhaustible supply, serves as an ideal substitute for any energy carrier. Similar developments are now underway in many countries around the world.

According to the press service of UrFU, the new research institute is equipped with modern equipment, including high-temperature furnaces, microscopes, and potentiostats – galvanostats. The percentage of young scientists not older than 35 years old in the institute is more than 80%.
