TC Sunergy Sdn. Bhd. (TCS), a subsidiary of Tan Chong Motor Holdings Berhad (TCMH), proudly announces the commencement of operations for its inaugural Floating Large-Scale Solar Photovoltaic (LSSPV) plant in Serendah, Selangor, on January 5, 2024.
The TCS Floating LSSPV – Serendah project stems from TCMH’s participation in the 20-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) initiative under the LSSPV Bidding Cycle 4 (LSS@MEnTARI) by the Energy Commission in 2020. This marks the Group’s inaugural entry into the renewable energy (RE) sector.
Situated on Sungai Rawang – Serendah Lake, the floating solar plant is poised to deliver 1,043,114 MWh of green energy to Tenaga National Berhad through a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). This contribution is estimated to curtail 610,221 tonnes of CO2 emissions, equivalent to removing 132,656 cars from the road or planting 29,058,175 trees.
In a bid to preserve the lake’s ecosystem and surrounding environment, only 60% of the water surface was utilized for the installation of the Floating Photovoltaic System, ensuring the conservation of existing biodiversity and water quality. The project strictly adheres to the Environmental Management Plans guidelines stipulated by Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) and the Department of Environment (DOE).
TCS, a consortium formed by Tan Chong Motor Assemblies Sdn. Bhd. (TCMA), APM Shock Absorbers Sdn. Bhd., and TCIM Sdn. Bhd. (TCIM), will be responsible for the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) of the plant. This oversight aims to uphold the licensed capacity, safety, reliability, availability, and efficiency of the generating plant throughout the PPA period, following prudent utility practices and in accordance with the Energy Commission’s Public Generation License conditions.
“TCS Floating LSSPV – Serendah marks a significant milestone as the Group ventures into the renewable and sustainable energy sector. TCMH Group is committed to playing a vital role in environmental conservation for the benefit of future generations,” stated Daniel Ho, Group Chief Executive Officer of TCMH.
