Tata Power unit, SJVN to develop 200 MW project in renewable energy sector

Tata Power subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited received a letter of award to develop a 200-megawatt Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) Project with SJVN and is expected to start operations within 24 months from the signing of a power purchase agreement.

In a statement, Tata Power said the project needs to be a hybrid combination of solar, wind and battery storage capacities to ensure the energy generation is dispatched as needed by distribution companies (discoms) during peak hours.

“FDRE provides round-the-clock power supply and supports the discoms in meeting Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) and Energy Storage Obligation (ESO),” Tata Power said.

The project, which is the first FDRE tender won by TPREL, will offset around 900,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

SJVN, a public sector undertaking, was mandated as the renewable energy implementing agency to reach India’s target of 500 gigawatts by 2030.
